May 20, 2010—Letter from the Principal
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Heifer Project to support struggling families with gifts of livestock. The final tally has been taken and we raised over $1500 for this worthwhile organization this spring!
Thank you also to all who were able to come to our electronic Science Fair presentations for 5th through 8th grade and to our traditional project display for 1st through 4th grades Friday through Tuesday. Congratulations to all the students on their terrific inquiries and experiments.
Congratulations to all of our 8th graders on their wonderful Exit Interviews and Portfolio Presentations on Monday evening. The students did a great job presenting their customized web pages, highlighting their accomplishments in academics, spirituality and service over the years, and sharing their special memories. There was standing room only in each of the five SmartBoard classrooms where the students presented. Thank you so much to volunteer panelists Father Ken, Carla Harris, Noelle Jung, Mary Donovan, Margot Vahrenwald, Wendy Brotherson, Molly Walsh, Ken Beck, Tina Ries, Arminda Menke and Denise Damek. I could not be prouder of our 8th graders. And I want to thank all of their teachers for the help and guidance they have given these students. Their presentations on Monday truly demonstrated the end result of all the support these students have been given by their teachers and their parents. Thank you and congratulations to all of you.
The whole community is welcome to attend the 8th Grade Graduation Mass tomorrow, Friday, May 21st, at 6:00pm in the church. Thank you to Patty and Neil Job for hosting the graduates for a party after the ceremony tomorrow night.
The 8th graders returned to the school parking lot just minutes ago from a three-day adventure in Gunnison and San Luis. We had a great time—touring the Air Force Academy, horseback riding, fishing, hiking the Sand Dunes and the walking the life-size bronze Stations of the Cross. It was a great finish to a great year for the students. Thank you to our remarkable chaperones: Erin Besperat, Thom McCarthy, Ricardo Ocampo, Eddie Kane, Jim Harvey, and Mickey Hoessler!
Our 8th graders will be finished with school tomorrow, but for the rest of us, there are still many special events in store! Next week, the 7th grade candidates for Student Council will present their campaign speeches on Thursday, May 27th, at 8:10am in the gym. Ballots will be cast and election results will be announced on Friday, May 28th. The 6th graders will present their spring play, “Casings” (a space-age version of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Tinderbox”) on Thursday, May 27th, at 2:05pm in Campbell Hall. And our first annual Athletic Awards Ice Cream Social will be Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00pm in the school cafeteria. Please join us if you can!
Our Adopt-a-Student scholarship applications are now available on the school website. These applications are due back by July 1st. Please call Amy Degenhart with any questions.
The final week of school, June 1st – 3rd, will be full of activity as well. On Tuesday, the school Talent Show will showcase our students’ special skills at 1:00pm in the gym; on Wednesday, our Kindergartners will celebrate their Continuation Ceremony in Campbell Hall; and on Thursday, we will end our year with Field Day from 9:00 to 12:30 at Robinson Park. Please return your students’ permission slips and lunch orders by next Friday, May 28th.
Finally, please plan to join us for the Corpus Christi Pig Roast on Sunday, June 6th, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. We will be celebrating our Church’s 98th “birthday,” presenting this year’s Golden Chalice Awards for outstanding service, and recognizing Father Ken on the 35th anniversary of his ordination. It will be a wonderful way to end the school year and to celebrate all we are grateful for in our community.
God Bless—
